THE
COMPANY
Cliff Johnston
founded the company -Johnston Environmental Ltd - in 1998
after 25 years of working in environmental consultancy for
the oil & gas industry. The company was established to
develop strategic consultancy services to the international
energy industry; and extend existing interests and experience
in non-oil resource development.
Throughout the
years the company interests have began to diversify and in
2004, after being joined full-time by his daughter Sarah,
a textile and surface designer, it was decided to rename the
company as Digitata Ltd to provide a more suitable name for
the various areas in the company has begun to work. The name
digitata means finger-like and is used in a variety of plant
names, e.g. Laminaria digitata (kelp) and Passiflora
serrato-digitata (passion flower). The new company name
therefore symbolises the many areas in which the company is
now working, in addition to it's extensive use of advanced
digital techniques.
Digitata Ltd, which
is located in Orkney, has three main spheres of expertise:
• textile
design, particularly of luxury interior accessories;
• design and environment;
• environmental studies.
This web-site provides an introductory
overview of the range of activities undertaken by Digitata,
which are described in more detail in activity specific websites.
